River vegetation is increasingly interesting to engineers and vegetation effects on flow structure are pressing for understanding. Little has been done on the one-line vegetation at the floodplain edge and submerged vegetation on the floodplain. This book reveals the flow characteristics of compound channels with such floodplain vegetation. The vegetation effects on the distributions of velocity and boundary shear stress, turbulence shear and secondary currents were revealed using various measurement and analysis techniques. Unsteady flow characteristics in vegetated channels were numerically captured with Large Eddy Simulation technique. Methods of estimating the drag force and stage-discharge were proposed for vegetated compound channels. Quasi-2D model was developed to predict the 2D vegetated flow structures by introducing new concepts to consider the vegetation drag. This book will be very useful to professionals in hydraulic, civil and environmental engineering and also be an excellent reference source for students in these disciplines.
