The Musee d'Orsay invites contemporary artists to dialogue with its collections by choosing a work they feel close to. This is an oppoortunity to see the collections in a fresh light. Born in 1939 the French artist Christian Jaccard has been developing the art of combustion. The flames leave traces on canvas, copper, in nature or on industrial wasteland, which become the medium for his pictorial device. For this "Correspondance", Jaccard engages in a confrontation with the Brietner painting Moonlight, in which he sees and affinity with the ignition and erosion of time phenomena characteristic of his own approach.
