AUTUMN does not picture the leaves falling off.Awareness of this distinction can accomplish two things.1 Using the word FALL can make your writing more picturesque, automatically.2 These two words could be used to make a useful distinction. The start of the season when Summer’s green leaves change colors spectacularly could be called AUTUMN. Then the sad end of the season resulting in bare branches for Winter could be called FALL.Using the words this way could provide a useful distinction instead of using these two words loosely as interchangeable so-called synonyms, the way most people do now.
