Workers' compensation programs have undergone many changes in recent decades. Total benefits paid for medical care and cash benefits for injured workers rose dramatically during the 1980s, and then declined sharply during most of the 1990s. This report presents new data on developments in 2001 and is the sixth report of its kind that the National Academy of Social Insurance has issued. The report provides estimates for 2001, the most recent year for which data were available.
