Conductive education (CE) is an educational method that recognizes that children with chronic motor disorders such as cerebral palsy have problems controlling & co-ordinating movement. The goals of CE are to help children with cerebral palsy to learn how to find ways to achieve personally formulated goals, to experience greater independence, and to exercise choice. This report provides background information on CE & cerebral palsy in children, and presents a critical review of the literature on the impact of CE on the overall learning & health status of children with cerebral palsy. It includes evaluations of six primary studies on CE and three parent studies. Appendices include information on the critical appraisal methodology used and on the nature of cerebral palsy.
