The work of Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), a Moravian artist who trained in Paris, is said to epitomize Art Nouveau. he has become best known for his poster designs, but Mucha was an accomplished artist and designer who also created interiors and designed jewellery, carpets and fabrics. The strong compositions, subtle colours and detailed, elegant decoration of his work, easily lent itself to advertising posters.
