Sometimes celebratory, at other times darkly comic, Sant's fascination is with energy as creative and destructive. Visual, rhythmically charged and suffused with feeling, poems are often set against deep geologic time influencing a present in which puzzled humans-and better adapted insects and plants-engage in acts of survival.
