The range of the wolverine has declined considerably in northern Quebec & Labrador, making the status of this eastern population a cause for concern. This document first reviews the wolverine's conservation status, past & current distribution, population size & trends, factors contributing to the wolverine's status, and the potential for recovery of the species. It then presents a plan to establish a self-sustaining population of wolverines in Quebec & Labrador that involves a multi-faceted strategy including: evaluation of population status & distribution; developing or refining monitoring methods; determining habitat needs & habitat quality and availability; and possible translocation of live-captured animals from western Canada. An activity schedule and an assessment of the plan's costs are included.
