The first section of this publication evaluates the current status of the wood bison in Canada, including the biological & habitat-related factors that influence species vulnerability, the effects of human activities & land use conflicts on the species, the role of the species in the ecosystem and its interaction with humans, and the recovery potential of the species. Section 2 presents a recovery plan for wood bison, beginning with four goals and five primary strategies to achieve those goals. Studies required to support recovery actions are identified along with management actions to address population-limiting factors while respecting conservation of biodiversity & human needs. Section 3 lists tasks to be carried out to implement the recovery plan, along with estimated costs over the years 1999-2004.
