
The piping plover is a small shorebird that breeds only in North America. It is listed as an endangered species in Canada. The first section of this publication evaluates the current status of this species, including the biological & habitat-related factors that influence species vulnerability and contribute to its endangered status, the role of the species in the ecosystem and its interaction with humans, and the recovery potential of the species (including the degree of habitat management required). Section 2 presents a recovery plan, with goals & objectives for the Prairie & Atlantic populations and strategies for achieving those objectives. Section 3 lists tasks to be carried out to implement the recovery plan, along with estimated costs over the years 2000-04.
