Modern medicine is often thought of as a fusion of the pure sciences, but medicine is also a deeply social discipline. Modern societies are characterized by increasing dependence on biomedical sciences to provide answers to growing social and health problems. Health is becoming a growing value for all categories of population from children to the elderly. Medical discourse on health, disease, the body has dominated both public and private speech, and has replaced many other discourses, especially in its controlling function, e.g. religious. At the same time, people's attitudes towards medicine are changing from unconditional trust to conditional trust and even doubt.
