"Is Heribert C. Ottersbach ultimately withdrawing from reality? His "depictions of terrain" now follow on the marginalia and banalities from his 2016 exhibition "On Offer Due to Circumstances". Whereas previously he used to paint "pictures about landscape", he now concentrates on paintings mainly concerned with his own biography and personal circumstances. They deal with "identity and terrain". His apprehension of identity and painting both comprise painterly research and terrain. To him the latter is always consisting of open territory. Rather than retreating from reality, Ottersbach is making a clear case for painting. He very consciously remains attached to seemingly out-dated notions of originality and artifact."--Website of Beck & Eggeling
