In his letter of 2 July 2014, the then Minister of Security and Justice announced the intention to modernize the existing Code of Criminal Procedure. The current code was introduced in 1926 and has undergone many changes since then. This does not always benefit the coherence of criminal law legislation, according to the Minister. The aim of modernization is to arrive at a future-proof code that provides a balanced system of legal guarantees. Moreover, the code of law for professionals and citizens had to be accessible and practicable in practice. The amendments to legislation should contribute to improving the quality of the existing criminal justice system and be drawn up in conjunction with the policy objective of the Strengthening of the Criminal Law Performance Programme. 0This series, which contains the most important parts of parliamentary history, aims to provide professionals from to give the criminal law practice a practical handle. This is done by specifying per article articles which changes the provision has undergone during the realization and also the relevant passages from the legal history relating to these provisions. The parliamentary history appears in nine parts. The first part, Book 0, concerns the Contour Memorandum and gives a general justification. Subsequently, each of the eight future books of the Code of Criminal Procedure is dealt with in a separate section. The series was created by the criminal law section of the Erasmus School of Law in collaboration with people from the field. With this cooperation is meant to realize a series that is as practical as possible in practice.
