This special issue of Trends in Automotive Research contains papers contributed to the Regional Conference on Automotive Research (ReCAR), held on the 14 and 15th December, 2011, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference was organised by the Centre for Automotive Research (CAR), Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
