In 'Tutankhamun's Sixteenth Step' six characters, real and imagined, stand on the step at the top of the stone stairs leading down to Tutankhamun's tomb. The first is Tutankhamun himself, believing that the tomb will be for his regent and the last the accountant of the modern replica of the tomb in Cairo. Between these stories, separated by gaps of time, some of a few years, others of millennia, are the stories of Tutankhamun's general - soon to succeed him as pharaoh - Horemheb, a guard on duty in the Valley of Kings, the foreman in charge of the building of a tomb for King Ramesses V and the tea boy who's accident allegedly revealed Tutankhamun's tomb thousands of years after he was buried. The stories are followed by historical and creative notes and finally the story of the author's own 'curse' of Tutankhamun!
