My Parents' Last Years is the story of the final years of my parents' life. The sub-title comes from the hymn "Count Your Blessings." Among my many blessings are my parents. Mom died in 2008 and Dad died in 2012. I explore what I saw during those days when their decline so tempest-tossed us. This book is my de profundis. It's my cry of pain written from the depth just before and in the weeks and months after my parents had died. It was my effort to sort out my conflicting feelings of affection and sorrow during those hard days. My parents' lives were cinematic-- unique, adventuresome, and heroic. But their deaths were not the least bit cinematic. And yet, amid the horrors and squalor, there were times to remind me to count my many blessings.
