This comprehensive document examines the activities of the World Trade Organization over the last six months of 1999. This turbulent period saw the the organization without a Director-General for four months and witnessed the failure of the Ministerial to reach an agreement on the launch of a new round of trade negotiations. The WTO also found itself at the centre of a wave of resentment against many aspects of the global economy, for which the Seattle Ministerial became a focus - the events in Seattle attracted much media comment.
