Since the 1980s, Sylvia Plimack Mangold has been painting the trees that surround her home and studio in upstate New York. This book documents a series of works Mangold created between 2018 and 2023, which comprised the exhibition "Sylvia Plimack Mangold" at 125 Newbury in New York, April 14 - June 3, 2023. These paintings and works on paper depict the large maple tree that grows directly outside the artist's studio window. Describing the visual splendors of the tree as it changes over the course of days, weeks, months, and seasons, Mangold's paintings are portraits of time's passage. In addition to reproductions of the works in the exhibition, the catalogue includes an introduction by Arne Glimcher, founder of Pace Gallery and 125 Newbury; a new essay by the critic and poet John Yau; and a 2023 interview between the artist and curator Oliver Shultz.
