This study examines the subtle impact of word processing on students' text production process -- i.e. how the word processor, when used with little or no teacher involvement, influences the way students approach their writing tasks. The emphasis is on the interactive effects on the process of writing -- planning, composing, editing and revising -- rather than its global impact on the overall writing results. Both previous research and observation in an elementary classroom were used in the study.
