No author, however unambitious, is disposed to sit down patiently under imputations which in conscious pride he feels to be unmerited; and there is no cause, amidst the multitude which are said to operate upon the nerves of writers in general, which seems to me to be of so uniformly irritating a nature, as the possible inference that they are professed novelists or romancers.
