Report of the workshop, which began with a plenary session consisting of short presentations that reviewed the dioxin problem from the perspectives of history, the need for reliable analytical data, current knowledge about dioxin levels in humans and the ambient environment, current combustion sources, dioxin hazards in pesticides, industrial and municipal effluents as dioxin sources, the toxicological effects of exposure to dioxins and the establishment of environmental standards. Following these presentations, the participants separated into working groups on control technology, regional issues, public exposure and standards. Each working group was asked to discuss priorities for action in communications, regional, regulatory, scientific and economic areas. The participants then met again to summarize their conclusions. Abstracts are included of papers given.
