Since 1987, he has been Professor of Law at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In 1976 and 1982 he was Director of Studies at the Hague Academyof International Law. He has held visiting Professorships at the Universities of Siena and Michigan. He is a member of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and was a founding editor of the European Journal of International Law.
