Although protection of human rights continues to grow as an area of concern, little attention has been paid in scholarly literature to the place of human rights in international law. This volume addresses this need as it details the relationship between human rights and humanitarian norms onthe one hand, and the law of state responsibility on the other. Meron examines the ways that contemporary human rights and humanitarian law mesh with the general principles of international law and particularly with the principles governing the international responsibility of states.
