This edition has been completely revised to include information on the numerous vital, recent advances in periodontology. Since the last edition was published, basic science and clinical research have enabled the clinician to better understand the function of the normal periodontium, the aetiology of various diseases in the periodontium, and the pathogenic mechanisms through which the periodontal tissues may be destroyed and through which the function of the periodontium may be jeopardized.
