Wine production is a major industry in many parts of the world, with particular environmental impacts at the various stages in the process. The distinctive waste management streams and the critical environmental and economic needs of wine-producing areas pose challenges for the industry and governmental bodies, and sustainability is becoming a key target. After thorough peer review 24 papers have been selected for this issue that cover the following topics: wastewater treatment using anaerobic digestion, aerobic technologies and other techniques; modeling and management; infiltration and groundwater; and soil, bioremediation and solid waste treatment.
