This paper investigates how occupational distribution is changing over time for Indigenous people in Australia, and compares occupational mobility between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Data is taken from the Australian Census Longitudinal Dataset for 2006?2011. The findings reveal that Indigenous people are more likely than non-Indigenous people to enter the labour market through low-skill jobs and to have greater downward mobility because they are more likely than non-Indigenous people to leave employment from the highest-skill occupations. However, there is not a great deal of difference in Indigenous and non-Indigenous patterns of occupational mobility for continually employed people.
