Gungwu (East Asian Institute, National U. of Singapore) collects 15 of his essays published during the 1990s about Chinese migration and resistance to it, particularly since the middle of the 19th century. For a society without a tradition of voluntary migration, and least of all emigration, he shows that a great number of Chinese did in fact move out. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation c.
