The tragic and cautionary tale of a PhD Librarian with allergies, a Clowder of Cats, Ancient Egyptian plagues, and how the food industry turned almost everyone into never-decaying zombies with an ‘organic’ food preservative made of an ancient fungus found in a cursed city. Dr. Babbette Bland must choose; the cats she’s allergic to but which the zombies fear, or the fungus zombies, which she is also allergic to and will eat her. Escaping Baltimore, she goes on the road cross country with a 100-year-old Egyptologist Lady Theodora Thorpe who survived the first encounter with the plague before WW2, and her cats in a Recreational Vehicle trying to reach the west coast and the last surviving Naval Fleet with the information about the truth of Pandemic Five. Theodora's twin great-grandsons, Leo and Lionel Thorpe, are serving in the US Navy Pacific Fleet under the descendants of one of the other survivors of the first modern outbreak. Admiral Lansing and his son, Captain Lansing, have kept their sailors safe offshore, but now, they are tasked with rescuing the uninfected survivors from cities filled with non-decaying I.U.W.s, infected undead wanderers. The dead are getting hungry and the Navy's only hope is that Theodora's memories and Babette's research can find a way to save them all before the surviving government decides to kill them all another way.
