This book tells that Honglian (red lotus) was a daughter of poor peasants and she lost her parents since the childhood, thus lived with her neighbor Aunt Zhang. After the liberation, she and Aunt Zhang's son Chungen had their consciousness raised under the education of CCP. Later, she found that Chungen was infected with the terrible bilharziasis, so she mobilized Aunt Zhang to send Chungen to the dispensary for treatment. But Aunt Zhang who was influenced by the feudal superstition didn't believe her at the beginning and said the disease was ""incurable"", secretly praying to Buddha for help. Then, Honglian followed the CCP's instructions and cited specific examples to convince Aunt Zhang. Finally, she succeeded and Chungen got the timely medical treatment and regained his health.
