This history of international monetary relations since World War II combines an analysis of events with an examination of the economic theories devised to explain them, showing how theoretical developments have affected practical developments and how the theories themselves have been judged--and often discarded--on the basis of their perceived accordance with reality. Exchange rate movements and the future of the international monetary system are particularly stressed.
