Renowned as one of the three musketeers of Taiwanese photography, Deng Nan-guang has stirred up a surge in the popularity of photography. Deng has a forlorn and romantic soul, and he possessed a wise and forward-looking vision. His observations, animated visual angels and vital way of capturing fleeting moments expressed his concern for society and the arts. This book collects Deng’s photos of Japan, his hometown Beipu in the 1930s; Taiwan under Japanese rule, World War II and its aftermath in the 1940s; his family photos, back-alley snapshots, nightclubs scenes in 1950s and 1960s. More than 300 images not only left irreplaceable moments in the history of Taiwan but also reveals Deng’s exceptional photographic aesthetic and stylistic ideas. Source: Taipei Fine Arts Museum
