Secrets. Stories. Tragedies. Treasures. For thousands of years the river has collected the stories of everything it touches. For almost as long, it has shared those stories with those who can speak its language. River talkers. There are never more than a handful of these special souls, living among people and yet set apart, scattered along the river's great length. Now their numbers are dwindling. They are in danger. The river is dying.... Created in a collaborative writing workshop by students from Atwater Elementary, Lake Bluff Elementary and Shorewood Intermediate School of Shorewood, Wisconsin, The Voice of the River tells the story of Mizuko, a river talker who sets out on a quest to save her beloved river. Her life will depend on new friends and new stories as she faces the greatest challenge the river has ever known. Written by Julia Appel, Amogh Bandekar, Garreth Bartholomew, Seth DeWolff, Martha Dix, Katie Eder, Rebecca Embar, Nora Frank, Molly Fox-Kincaid, Zoe Gulbronson, Clayton Holbrook, Julian Klemann, Maya Lawnicki, Annalise Lozier, Zoey Nahmmacher-Baum, Audrey Oldfather, Naomi Raicu, Isabel Schmitt, Michael Sibila, Emma Stenzel, Aidan Warren, Kat Whittle and Marcella Yatso.
