For almost as long, it has shared those stories with those who can speak its language. River talkers. There are never more than a handful of these special souls, living among people and yet set apart, scattered along the river's great length. Now their numbers are dwindling. They are in danger. The river is dying.... Created in a collaborative writing workshop by students from Atwater Elementary, Lake Bluff Elementary and Shorewood Intermediate School of Shorewood, Wisconsin, The Voice of the River tells the story of Mizuko, a river talker who sets out on a quest to save her beloved river. Her life will depend on new friends and new stories as she faces the greatest challenge the river has ever known.
