In 1972-1973 a systematic archaeological survey was conducted of the map area by a team headed by Ariel Berman on behalf of the Archaeological Survey of Israel and the Israel Antiquities Authority. Portions of the map area were resurveyed in 1995 by a team under the direction of Harley Stark, with the aim of updating the report preceding its publication.
