In October 1989, the Council initiated a plan of action to deal with high-risk contaminated sites by establishing the National Contaminated Sites Remediation Program. This report presents the results from the first year, including bilateral agreements established; a description of 10 sites at which remediation or technology demonstration activities have been initiated; the development of a national site classification system and national environmental quality criteria; funding; and future activities.
