Earthworks showcases haiku and senryu by 129 attendees of the seventeenth biennial Haiku North America conference, held June 28 to July 2, 2023 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Edited by Michael Dylan Welch and Julie Schwerin, this anthology features many leading poets writing haiku in English, together with photographs by John E. Hancock of Ohio’s ancient Hopewell culture earthworks. “These poems celebrate the profound connection between poetry and place, from bustling cities to expansive farmlands. With its diverse voices and poetic traditions, Earthworks illuminates the power of haiku poetry to forge connections and inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.
