Most OECD governments are reforming regulations in various sectors of economic activity in order to increase their effectiveness and reduce their cost. In the field of environment, a number of reforms and innovative approaches ahve been implemented in OECD countries. This study reviews recent, ongoing, and prospective measures and proposes some directions for a more consistent assessment and management of environmental regulations.
