Scientists who work with the processes of the past that leave exposed or surficial records on the earth's landscape all share the problem of dating these records. In the past, archaeologists and geomorphologists who have attempted to date surface or exposed phenomena have frequently been at a disadvange, since standard approaches like radiocarbon or stratigraphy are most often not applicable. In this volume archaeologists, geologists, geographers, and physicists discuss methods ranging from those that have been in existence for some time, but have been considerably improved, to several new approaches that have been specifically developed for the dating of exposed and surface records. Volume contributors are Peter L. K. Knuefer, Danny McCarrol, Charlotte Beck, George T. Jones, Ronald I. Dorn, Robert C. Dunnell, James K. Feathers, Mark D. Kurz, Edward J. Brook, Marek G. Zreda, Fred M. Phillips, John A. Matthews, and Olavi Heikkinen.
