The book is used to educate aspiring post secondary students during their college and university courses in fields such as Psychology, Motivation, and individuals who are interested in the study of human motivation and emotion. Topics include the basic motivators for psycho-physiological behaviors including: eating, drinking and sex. Also, overviews the biological oddities of the human psyche. For example, how the everyday observable, mundane behaviors (i.e., yawning) is not really understood. The theories are discussed, however, it is unknown why the human body causes such a behavior to become observable. Then subjects go deep into the conscious processes involved with the formation of depression through the use of basic theories and use of research, such as: Learned Helplessness. Great to read as a self teaching book due to it's breakdown of the chapters with the theoretical highlights as foundations of the later research and diagnostic avenues popular in the social sciences today.
