Examines the role of the family in the development and maintenance of health and illness behaivors. Chapters discuss the development of children's concepts of health and illness, the impact of acute and chronic illnesses on both the patient and family members, aging and its effect on family members, and terminal illness and bereavement. In addition, it describes research design methodologies, their strengths and weaknesses, and details future directions for research.
