What are the reasons for stringent border controls in South Asia? Why are they imposed and what purpose do they actually serve? Who gains and loses as a consequence? What are the procedures involved and why have they come about? A collaborative research project sponsored by the Regional Center for Strategic Studies symposium addressed these and related issues. Four distinguished experts, one each from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have separate chapters examining a particular facet reflecting their respective perspectives.
