This program demonstrates how to use the Ballad/Dubowitz Scale to determine the gestational age of a newborn based on physical and neuromuscular criteria. It illustrates how to perform the examination to distinguish infants delivered at-term from those who are pre-term or who are post-term (born after 42 weeks). The program also describes how to correlate gestational age with the size and weight of the infant and to identify those neonates who are appropriate, small or large for their gestational age.
