Printed in an edition limited to 350 copies this being one of the fifty special copies bound in quarter leather with an extra portfolio of specimens. The fascinating story of the revival of the Fell types in the 125 years from 1864. Includes a bibliographical handlist of books printed in them during that period. It started out as a project of cataloguing titles printed in Fell, but as their research progressed in the O.U.P. archives at Worchester College, at the Morison and Meynell archives at Cambridge, and the Bodleian Library, they uncovered a story of the revival, the many problems in casting new type from the 'ancient' and often faulty matrices, the impact of Horace Hart's management of the O.U.P. Type Foundry, the life of the press around the turn of the century and more. The short introduction to the handlist became a major book with an appendix that lists 250 titles. This edition includes an additional portfolio of about twenty type facsimiles printed using Fell type, including display of the remaining Fell flowers. The facsimiles are printed at The Old School Press, except for one from a Daniel Press book.
