Because Fiction International's special issue on Pain has generated so many submissions, we have decided to devote two sequential issues to the subject. Our intention was to publish more than fiction so we tried to obtain texts from those closest to the open wounds of this degraded period: prisoners, the homeless, the mentally ill, crisis health workers, radical environmentalists, animal activists. In this regard we have been only partially successful. The fact is that these people are too busy coping and resisting to write about it. Nevertheless there is material in this issue to provoke your attention, to think about at your console, in your bath.
