This book is designed to serve as a practical demonstration of the interdependence of religious, anthropological and indological studies; all the contributions in one way or another relate to religion: hence the title of the volume. Although there are a number of religious traditions in South Asia, the title assumes that Vedic Brahmanism, Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism, together with the various traditions that developed within them.
