Aims to provide a concise, integrated treatment of a limited number of works of art from around the world. Works are discussed within a historical framework, in chronological order, accompanied on virtually every page by quality color reproductions. The first section discusses the process of experiencing art. Chapters that follow begin with prehistoric art and ancient art followed by the period between 200 to 1400; then the 15th century, followed by every century through the 20th.
