A quote on the back cover from the New England Journal of Medicine describes the book well. 'For physicians and heallth administrators who desires a concise, dispassionate, and lucdly written account of this two-sided situation [the outstanding achievements of the pharmaceutical industry on one hand and its business practices on the other] this book can be recommended without reservation.". From the California Pharmacist, ""It describes and documents are drugs are discovered, produced, promoted priced, prescribed, and used. and too often mispromoted, misprescribed, and misused." The problems we see today have deep roots. This book looks toward reform but with treatment determined by insurance companies and the pressures of Wall Street for ever high profits and stock performance, and the demands by patients for high advertised drugs, it seems like nothing has changed.
