Romance may be dead, but with enough alcohol, it doesn't have to be. Romance Is Dead takes you into the mind of a man on the brink of madness as he tries to regain his faith in love and himself. Aspiring writer Preston Reed didn't handle his divorce very well, even though he had spent the majority of his twenties eagerly waiting for it to happen. His failure as a husband and father causes him to realize that he has done very little to succeed in life, and he finds himself fighting a losing battle with depression and alcohol dependency. Despite knowing that his lifestyle needs to change for his young son's sake, he continuously digs himself deeper towards rock bottom. In an effort to make something of his life, he often finds himself sitting in front of a blank word document, bottle of half-drunk whiskey in one hand and a dead cigarette in the other, mindlessly waiting for inspiration to strike. However, during his darkest days, he meets Emily, a fun-loving degenerate in her own right, and together they navigate the crazy world of dating, sex, and romance while unknowingly saving each other from their own silent hells.
