While War stories were a staple of the men’s adventure magazines, it was the 1967 hit film THE DIRTY DOZEN that opened the floodgates for the MAMs to publish even more gonzo stories about Yank soldiers, female freedom fighters, and suicide missions behind enemy lines during WWII—wild tales of Lace Panty Commandos, Special Forces Apache Raiders, Submarine Commandos, and Freedom Fighting “Death Dolls.” This issue of the MAQ reprints the wildest of these stories and artwork including the 1944 TRUE magazine story that inspired THE DIRTY DOZEN. Included in our recon of this “Dirty Mission” subgenre is a special section about legendary artists’ model, pinup photo model and actress Eva Lynd. We have also included a gallery of Eva’s over-the-top Nazi torture covers by renowned artist Norm Eastman; a feature on vintage British war comics influenced by the “Dirty Mission”genre by Justin Marriott; an essay on the MAMs by “Glorious Trash” blogger Joe Kenney; and, much more. Join us in this special expanded 5th issue of the MEN’S ADVENTURE QUARTERLY as we explore these MAM “Dirty Mission” stories, art and the people who created them.
