During 1987 and 1988, spacing (precommercial thinning) was undertaken on 3 one-hectare blocks of interior B.C. lodgepole pine and 2 one-hectare blocks of coastal western hemlock. Each block received 4 different treatments during spacing and the survival and development of live limbs on cut stumps are documented. Pre- and post-spacing stand densities, clearing-saw productivity and costs are also reported.
