This report takes a 5-year look at the amounts of toxic releases and transfers reported by industrial facilities in North America (NA), from 1995 to 1999. Based on data from the national pollutant release and transfer registers (PRTRs), this 5-year span provides us with an opportunity to assess key trends and ask ourselves: are we making sufficient progress in reducing the amounts of these substances we are releasing into the environment.
